Yucatan Gringos

The trip is over. . .was some months back. . so much to fill in the blanks between then and now. . .but this day is about over, and I wanted to put something to text here. .

Hubby did most all the research. . via internet. . . about the climate of the Yucatan . . about the Mayan influence there. . .about ‘how’ to go about buying property there (yes! - you can own property in Mexico. . . but there is a legal trust you have to go through for property within a certain distance of the beaches. .). .taxes. .utilities. . .medical. . about Progreso and the port there, and how it is ‘booming’ and plans for (even more!)development there are in the works. . the modern highways. . . the Americanized shopping. . . all these topics and more will (hopefully) be discussed in a ‘little’ depth in later posts. . . but, for those of you who want to know now, may I suggest Yucatan Today. . .A wealth of information is to be had there. . .

We have purchased a beach front lot with plans to build our home there. . The hows and why of this are simple. . . did not find the ‘exact’ home we wanted for the price we had in mind. .(many beautiful homes! - but they would have all required modification. . ). . Now we have our jobs cut out for us in coming up with plans, and making sure these plans fit our budget. . .Building in Mexico, especially along the coast, is concrete construction (hurricane proof!). . and there are many aspects to this building project that we have to keep in mind. . .and I have a lot of research to do in this area, as well as trying to fit all our ‘wishes’ into a plan that works. . .

I have had a thought. .(oh my! that is dangerous!). . to dedicate a post (now and then) to ’someone’ or ’something’. . .today I think I should dedicate this post to ‘Becky’. . . she is as good as one of my daughters. . . may as well be, as much as we think of her!!. (she put her thinking cap on today and helped me in trying to fit the ’square peg’ of our wishes in a home into the ’round hole’ of a viable plan. . .thanks Becky!) .. And she also took a trip to Mazatlan to check out property there, while we did the Yucatan bit. . .Isn’t she gorgeous??. . . .
