Jul 3 - searching the realty ads
Realtors and the realty market in Mexico differ from those in the states. . . Our search was done via the internet, and various - no - ‘numerous’ realty sites popped up when googled. . . Weeks were spent searching these sites - pouring over the listings, squinting at details on the pictures, checking the amenities of each home, comparing prices, and reading the details of each home . . . We learned quite a bit too. .
Realtors in Mexico do not have be licensed. . therefore, we tried to keep our search to the bigger realty sites where ‘experience’ would play a role. . We also found that many different realty sites listed the same home - at different prices!!. .Ah!. . There is no such thing as ‘multiple’ listings - (where realtors can access the listings of others) - and basically set their own rules . . . (some ‘charge’ a fee to show you the homes. . .). . But, the adventure in this hunt was still rewarding. . We printed out the information on the homes we wanted to look at (during our impending trip down there) and tried to contact the various realtors via email. . . Only one responded. .(at that time - later we made contact with others. . things move ’slower’ in Mexico!!). .
We received very courteous and eager responses from Livtopia . . Diane Hamelberg is a very gracious woman who contacted their agent in Merida (where we planned to visit for this venture) and even offered to have him pick us up at the airport. . Omar, the agent (whom we later met on our trip down there) proved to be a sincere wonderful young man, but this story will need to be told in a later post. .
There were many things we needed to learn about buying property in Mexico, so ‘hubby’ did the research on this and learned the facts. . . (posts to follow on these subjects also. .). . while we both put together a ‘folder’ of the various homes that we wanted to look at, and booked a trip to Merida. . .
The Merida trip was exhilirating. . . exhausting. . not near long enough to do all the looking that we had planned. . .and demands to be told in depth. . . so, I will start on that story with my next post. . .Meanwhile, here is a picture of Omar and ‘hubby’ . .hmmm. . I will have to email Omar and ask him again the name of that bar we were in. . . Open air, palapa roof, family orientated, live band, and ‘all the food you can eat’ - by way of samplers served with the drinks. . . It was great!!. . more later. . .
