Jun 26 - Medical Woes
(backtracking to events following stent procedure)Â
After the trials of rounding up all the different medical billings that came in after the stent procedure, (and the crying and weeping and gnashing of teeth in watching so much of our hard earned savings flitter away so quickly), the main area of research down in Mexico was of their medical facilities and insurance programs. . . what we found out was amazing. .
Hubby did the research, so he will have to fill you in on the exact specifics of it all, but in general, medical in the areas where we looked is high class; modern first class facilities with knowledgeable doctors, prices within reason where they won’t drain one’s life savings. . also, insurance (which here in the states is priced beyond what we can afford) is available at reasonable rates. . and, one doesn’t have every ‘tom, dick and harry’ that walked by your room, or looked at your chart, or even heard about your hospital stay - sending you a bill!!. . (I am still debating with one company on the validity of their billing. . as it appears we are being billed twice for the same things. . .)
All this is not to mention the ‘prescription costs’ here in the states. . . need I elaborate on that??. . . Our first attempt to purchase these ‘needed drugs’ (at a reasonable price - after shelling out several hundred dollars for one month’s worth of stay alive pills here in the states)Â was an order from Canada, and that resulted in letters from our government stating that our orders had been confiscated. . . (we were not alone in this. .obviously irate citizens responded quickly. .). . . Though that order was lost, ’special allowances’ were quickly made by our government to allow these ‘illegal’ purchase of drugs. . .Prices of these prescription medications in Mexico is even more reasonable than ordering from Canada, ‘but’ - the cost of getting them delivered here in the states makes up for that. .
So, to make a long story short, medical care and cost south of the border appears to shame those in the states. . .more later. . .
